Camille Henrot
In her fountain Adrift, Henrot depicts the significance of water as part of our domestic environment. The artwork has a festive atmosphere: for the artist, it is an ode to the way water is part of our daily lives. This contemporary interpretation of a classic artistic motif, the fountain sculpture, places the human body and human relationships at its center.

For her, the fluidity of water, as well as the bronze that is cast, symbolizes the resilient human capacity for adaptation and change, but also for connection. The purifying effect of water also intrigues Henrot: water quenches thirst, washes away dirt, is part of important human rituals (such as baptism), and can be a powerful energy source. As beings composed of 60% water, we are fundamentally dependent on having sufficient water. Additionally, in our environment, it is an important source of relaxation and recreation, thus contributing in a very direct way to our physical and mental well-being.
At the same time, the availability of water on our planet is no longer a given or something we can take for granted, and Camille Henrot makes this a topic of discussion as well. After all, we depend on water for our daily lives and households.
