Luc Deleu

Two containers are attached horizontally to a tower of three containers. The stairs invite you to explore the space at the top. The glass wall in the last container affords a view of the art park.

Luc Deleu has been realizing “container monuments” since 1983. The containers are ready-mades: industrially manufactured steel boxes for transporting goods. Deleu transforms these simple objects into symbolically charged monuments such as triumphal arches, obelisks, and bridges. They are often dismantled afterwards and find their place again in the world of mobility and transport.

Belgian contemporary artist Luc Deleu is an architect, visual artist, and world traveler. His notion of “orbanism” explores how a sustainable form of architecture on a global scale can still connect to the needs of the individual on a local level. His designs offer an ecological and mobile alternative to the city in its current form. For him, the inhabitants’ freedom to shape their living environment and public space to their liking comes first.
